BrainPOP Jr. is an online, subscription resource for grades K-3, which allows teachers to reinforce lessons or concepts, through videos, games, and quizzes. It was founded in 1999, by Dr. Avraham Kadar, as a creative way to explain difficult concepts to young children. The subjects covered in BrainPOP Jr. are; STEM, Social Studies, Reading/Writing, Health, and Arts. During Digital Citizenship Week, we used BrainPOP Jr. to teach about Cyberbullying, and Internet Safety. While most young children do not have email or texting capabilities, they were able to grasp the meaning of Cyberbullying, and become equipped with the knowledge of steps to take if they ever find themselves in that situation. Quizzes are offered after lessons to check for understanding, and to lead discussions. Other activities for students follow after lessons, including; Make-A-Map, Word play, Games, Activities, Draw About It, Write About It, and Talk About It. Teachers are also offered resources with lesson ideas, and the ability to create their own quizzes. Teachers at Peavy Primary School are excited to have this resource available for their students, as well as themselves.
