Salutations!
Friendly-Neighborhood Instructional Technician here and I just want to provide you all with as much information as I can about the recent rash of audio issues over the wireless presentation to projector equipment and ceiling speakers, etc.
My understanding is that we have had techs that have gone around and helped several of you get your audio back up and running, where possible (I know at least one person was out of their classroom and we were unable to handle that in the original action), though, I'm not sure if the entire situation was explained, etc, or if they just popped on and did "the fix" and left or whatever else may have occurred.
It also seems that there may be a "spread" or people finding this issue after the first wave of sudden drop in audio function. So, I wanted to give a bit of background and information and provide a set of instructions, JUST IN CASE, we find ourselves in a similar position due to new updates or a reboot or if we were logged in under another account and didn't realize that it might not change the settings for everyone, etc.
I can also say that part of my concern stems from the fact that technically we do not actually know the how and why of what's going on there.
So, to begin, many of you had things working mostly from the start of school and suddenly lost audio when projecting. Our department tried multiple possible solutions and many either made the issue worse, didn't work at all, or worked only temporarily, just to have the problem return almost immediately.
Our latest has been a simple Settings adjustment, which you can do yourself:
Step 1, navigate to the sound icon in the system tray and click on it:

Our latest has been a simple Settings adjustment, which you can do yourself:
Step 1, navigate to the sound icon in the system tray and click on it:
This will open the volume bar.
Step 2, click this audio device icon to the right of the volume bar, to open up more options:
Step 2, click this audio device icon to the right of the volume bar, to open up more options:
Step 3, see where it says "Digital Output", that should be highlighted and you can ensure this by clicking on that sound device (NOTE: it will only be there IF you are actually currently using your projection/wireless display)...

Click "More volume settings"
Step 4, navigate into the system settings, ensure that "Digital Output" is the selected device and then swap this toggle, at the bottom of that section, from "Off" to "ON"
Step 4, navigate into the system settings, ensure that "Digital Output" is the selected device and then swap this toggle, at the bottom of that section, from "Off" to "ON"
So far, this has "fixed" the issue. Again, we are not entirely comfortable with the knowledge that we only have theories and hypothetical guesses as to why this is the case and I can't be sure that this setting won't change to a default of "Off" or any number of other things, again or soon or on a reboot or whatever else. So, I wanted y'all to have a fullest understanding and/or at least be as "up to speed" as we are on where we currently sit, with this phenomenon.
(UPDATE: I have seen reports from Microsoft that this comes from a particular recent Microsoft update, but that report didn't include all the same information that we have, which makes me a little skeptical that even Microsoft has a full understanding of the issue, at this juncture)
Please let me know if there are any additional questions or if you still need help with this or would like a face-to-face explanation or instructions!!
